Gunmen set lawmaker’s house on fire in Anambra

The apartment of member, representing Ihiala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr. Paschal Agbodike was on Tuesday set ablaze by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums.

The facility, comprising a fully-furnished five-bedroom duplex with four living rooms and a kitchen, located in Ubahi-Mbosi in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State was reportedly set ablaze by the gunmen who invaded the house at about 1am.

“The hoodlums who invaded the building at about 1am,shot sporadically  before setting the house ablaze,” a resident of the area said.

Confirming the incident to reporters, Agbodike, former deputy speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly said no life was lost.

The lawmaker who said he was informed about the incident on telephone, did not indicate if he suspected anyone, nor if the incident had political undertone.

“I was in Abuja carrying out my legislative duties when the attack occured, but before security operatives arrived the scene, the hoodlums had fled,” he said.

Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, saying the area has been condoned following deployment of security operatives in the area.

“The area has been condoned and security operatives have been deployed in the area and they are assessing the situation. There is ongoing surveillance by the operatives,” he said.
