A Non governmental Organization, Street Aid Africa Foundation (SAAF) has distributed clothings and wears to over 80 persons in Urum, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra state.
The items which consist of cloths, shoes, handbags, beads, bangles, children wears among others were donated to the indigent persons in partnership with URUM Development Union.
Leader of the team, Miss Divine Alex said the organization’s focus was on United Nations Sustainable Developmental Goal aimed at providing education and empowerment for children.
She said the distributed items were earlier donated by good spirited individuals following interest of the founder of the NGO, Nancy Nwosu in that regard.
“The outreach is targeted at clothing people in rural communities who do not have the financial capacity to acquire those items from the market,” she said.
She listed other programmes of the group to include: feed the street, impact school outreach, voiceless conference for amplifying socially and sexually sensitive issues and pad drive for female adolescents.
President General of Urum Community, Chief Alloy Tabansi who received the team alongside his Vice, Anthony Akachukwu, described the gesture as laudable.
He said, “For an NGO to remember to share cloths and wears to the people at a time in the country when feeding has become a great challenge to many rural households is highly commendable.
“While the people struggle to find food to sustain their living, getting free clothing will no doubt ameliorate their stress and make them mingle with others with pride.”
While lauding Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s efforts in road infrastructures in the state especially Awka North Local government area, Tabansi called his attention to Isuaniocha-Urum-Amanuke to Ugbene road which also connects the people with Achalla their local government headquarters.
“Urum as an agrarian town that make up Awka capital development territory is looking forward to benefiting infrastructural development from the governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration,” he said.
Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ifeoma Ndumanya, Godfrey Oranye, Ephraim Udeozor and Amarahi Nwoye who were full of gratitude to Street Aid Africa Foundation, SAAF, for remembering them, also thanked the town’s leadership for approving such gesture to them.
