The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has accused Governor Chukwuma Soludo of hoarding Federal Government’s palliatives to the State for political gains.
The party demanded for immediate distribution of the palliatives.
Speaking on Wednesday in Nnewi, APC Southeast zone Organizing Secretary, Dozie Ikedife Jnr said continued delay in distribution of the palliatives had projected the President Bola Tinubu’s administration in a bad light before the people of the State.
He said, “Soludo is now re-bagging the rice putting his inscriptions for political gains. He is campaigning with the rice as if he is the one giving it to the people whereas it is the Federal Government’s initiative.
“I’m using this opportunity to call on the Anambra State Government to desist from such act. Something that is released to the poor people of the State over four months now should not be highjacked for political aggrandizement.
“Many States have since distributed their own supply while a State like Anambra hoards its own. The palliatives must be released to the people for whom the palliatives are meant and distributed without any political colouration.
“The Governor can campaign for a second tenure but he should not use the rice palliatives. President Tinubu-led administration had released five trailer loads of the rice to each State and more are still coming.
“We saw such hoarding in the past but that should not be repeated. The Governor doesn’t have the right to keep the rice. Federal Governement sent the rice for a particular purpose and that purpose should not be defeated.
“But if the Governor doesn’t want to do the needful, we will leave it to his conscience. The day of judgment is coming.”
Reacting, Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Christian Aburime said the distribution of the palliatives had commenced.
“Anambra State government under the leadership of Prof Chukwuma Soludo is distributing the palliatives of the Federal Government ward by ward to all nooks and crannies of the State,” he said.
