Community protests murder of two, besiege Anambra government house

Youths from Nsugbe Community in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State on Tuesday protested gruesome murder of two persons from the community by suspected members of neighbouring Umueri Community.

The protesters, who besieged the State Government House in Awka, chanted protest songs, calling on government to wade into the issue of boundary between both communities, to avoid a repeat of such incident.

Daily Vendor gathered that the Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, after the killing on November 22, had invited both communities for a meeting, but afterwards, the Umueri community went ahead to erect a billboard on the boundary, claiming ownership.

The deputy governor had in response, led a team to dismantle the billboard and moved them to the state government house.

Speaking during the protest, Leader of the protesters, Johnpaul Mozie said there would be more disasters if nothing urgent was done to address the matter.

The Chairman of Nsugbe Youths Assembly, Engr Chidi Obiudu, who came to oversee the protest, noted that it has become difficult to control the youths, given that no action has been taken to give justice to the murdered persons.

Addressing the protesters, Chief Security Officer of the Government House, SP Kingsley Nkuma assured them of government’s intervention into the matter to ensure justice for them.
