The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Abia State Command, says it has destroyed seized illicit drugs worth several millions of naira at its office , Ogbor Hill , Aba , following the court order obtained from the Federal High Court Umuahia .
Chairman and Chief Executive of NDLEA , Col . Muhammad Abdallah ( retd .) , disclosed this in a statement in which he insisted that the drugs were publicly destroyed to send a strong signal to traffickers and drug dependent persons to desist from the hurtful and counter -productive activity .
Presenting his address , the State Commander , NDLEA, Abia State Command , Mr Bamidele Akinbade , disclosed that the illicit drugs amounted to 9 ,110 ,252 kg of seized drugs comprising of 6 ,574 .116 kg of Cannabis , 10 .81 kgs of Heroin, 8 .9832 kg of Cocaine and 2, 516 .394 kg of Psychotropic Substances.
The exercise , he said provides the Command a unique opportunity to prove the extent of successes recorded in their counter narcotic operations in the state .
