Wood-ladden lorry crashes, catches fire in Anambra

…the lorry and its contents were destroyed by the inferno

An articulated lorry loaded with foreign woods went up in flames on Sunday along Enugu-Onitsha expressway, Anambra State.

The incident which occurred at about 2.29pm, around Enugu-Agidi junction was caused by loss of control of the driver which led to crash.

The Daily Vendor gathered that no life was lost, but the lorry and portions of its contents were destroyed by the inferno.

Confirming the incident, State Fire Chief Engr Martin Agbili said the fire was brought under control by his men who arrived the scene shortly.

He said, “At about 1429hrs (2.29pm) of today Sunday 19-03-2023, Anambra State Fire Service, received a distress call of fire outbreak at Enugu-Agidi junction opposite Zim Zam Hotel along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on a 911 lorry carrying foreign woods.

“Immediately, we deployed our fire truck and firefighters to fire scene for the proper fire fighting operation.

“The fire emanated during a road crash as the driver of the truck lost control of his steering.

“There was no lost of life during the road crash and fire outbreak.”
