Empowerment of women has been a major objective and debate in the recent past among the academia and civil societies across the world.
Women empowerment is the process of changing the system of society or any institution that positions women as subordinate to men.
The Daily Vendor Newspaper learnt that for the first time, 5 women officers were promoted to the rank of Colonel by the Indian Army. The women officers serving with the Corps of Signals, Corps of Electronic and Mechanical Engineers and Corps of Engineers have been approved for promotion to the rank of Colonel.
The five officers selected by the board are Lieutenant Colonel Sangeeta Sardana of Signal Corps, Lieutenant Colonel Sonia Anand of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers Corps and Lieutenant Colonel Navneet Duggal, Lieutenant Colonel of Engineers Corps Lieutenant Colonel.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, obtained by The Daily Vendor correspondent, this is the first time in the history of the Army that a female officer from one of the three corps has been promoted to the rank of Colonel.
