Woman who abused her septuagenarian mother in Anambra apologises, pleads for mercy

A middle-aged woman, Ukamaka Udugbo arrested for allegedly beating her 75-year-old mother, Theresa Nwaokaka of Obe-Orofia in Obeagu Umudun in Abagana, Anambra State has admitted to the crime.

The suspect, a native of Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state also tendered unreserved apology to the public and asked for pardon. 

Udugbo was said to have beat the aged mother kept under her care while bathing her outside her house in Obeagu Umudun.

She who was later arraigned in court and remanded in prison in Onitsha, was however granted bail after meeting up with her bail conditions.

While shedding tears at the office of the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, the remorseful suspect pleaded for forgiveness, promising to be of good behavior going forward. 

“I’m very sorry and take responsibility for my actions. I plead with everyone to forgive me and promise to be of good behaviour henceforth,” she said.

Responding, Commissioner Obinabo adviced the victim to stay away from anything that would cause her further damage, urging the children to properly look after her and not to pay the suspect back in the same coin. 

The suspect was asked to return to the court to fulfill all requirements expected of her.
