Woman falls off moving bus, crushed by truck in Anambra

A female passenger on Wednesday lost her life after falling off from a moving shuttle bus in Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The crash which occurred around 2pm, involved the shuttle bus with Registration number: ABA313ZJ and a tipper with no registration number.

The Daily Vendor gathered that the deceased had boarded the bus after the bus was already full and had to sit close to the door which was partially open.

According to eyewitness, the woman fell off from the bus, and was hit by the tipper truck after the bus driver lost control of the vehicle in attempt to overtake the tipper.

Confirming the crash, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Adeoye Irelewuyi blamed the crash on wrongful overtaking.

He sympathized with the deceased family of the dead victim, urging motorist to exercise patience while driving; ensuring the road was clear and safe before overtaking.

He said, “A fatal road traffic crash involving two vehicles Commercial Daihatu shuttle bus with Registration number: ABA313ZJ and a commercial Mercedes tipper with no registration number occurred today 19th April, 2023 opposite Oyi Police Station by  Nteje-Onitsha Expressway. 

“The probable cause of the fatal road traffic crash was wrongful overtaking.

“Ten persons were involved in the crash comprising 6male adults, and 4 female adults. 6 male adults and 3 female adults were rescued unhurt and 1 female adults was killed.

“FRSC personnel from RS5.33 rushed the injured victim to Chira Hospital, Awkuzu where she was confirmed dead on arrival and the corpse was deposited at new world mortuary, Nteje. responders at Nteje.

“FRSC personnel are on ground managed traffic and ensured obstruction caused by the crash was removed.”
