We’re pleased with your performance – Elders, stakeholders tell Hon Chidoka

By: Isaac Ojo

The lawmaker representing Idemili North and South Local Government Areas in the House of Representatives, Hon Obinna Chidoka has played host to elders and stakeholders from Nkpor.

Hon. Chidoka during an interaction with his visitors charged political office holders to perform in their first tenure rather than waiting for the second term.

He said that it is imperative for politicians to make good their electioneering campaign promises in their first tenure because they may not have opportunity of going for second term.

“There are many politicians in and outside Nigeria who didn’t get second tenure, few examples include; former Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, former President Goodluck Jonathan and even President Donald Trump, they can only be assessed based on what they did in their first tenure, this should be instructive for all politicians.” The lawmaker pointed out.

Hon Chidoka who was the 2016 best lawmaker in Nigeria noted that he has called attention of the National Assembly to the dilapidated Onitsha-Owerri road which he said is very strategic to travellers coming in to the East and going to Owerri, PortHarcourt and other places.

He said that the contract for the immediate rehabilitation of the all important Onitsha-Owerri road has been awarded after his presentation at the plenary.

“It’s really not acceptable that motorists spend two to three hours in-between Onitsha and Oba, interestingly any traveller coming from Benin, Lagos, Asaba and going to Owerri and beyond must pass through the spoilt section on Onitsha to Oba. We have also ensure that Ugwu Ulasi in Okija is also receiving attention.” He said.

Hon Chidoka in an unprecedented manner revealed that lawmakers are given only a total of 120 million Naira as their constituency project fund, which he noted is far in-between.

He however added that the said N120 million constituency project fund is not released in cash to the lawmaker, but assigned to projects listed by the lawmaker.

He noted that Idemili LGAs have about seventeen communities, and going by the approved N120 million, the 17 communities under his constituency can’t get up to N10 million worth of projects each, even when it’s almost impossible to execute any meaningful project with the amount.

“We have seventeen communities in my constituency, the financial implications is that all the communities can not get ten million Naira each from the money being released for constituency project. So one begin to wonder what kind of project the lawmakers are supposed to do for their constituents.” He noted.

He also revealed that the number of his constituents who have gotten federal government job through his office has increased tremendously, noting that it cannot be otherwise because he believes passionately that the youths must be positively engaged.

In their separate remarks, Chief Godwin Onwukwe and Chief Saicas Ibeabuchi, commeneded the lawmaker for his outstanding performance.

They noted that his finger prints are everywhere in Idemili North and South Local Government Areas as he has been doing projects aimed at bettering the life of his constituents.

“When one’s child is doing very well, one will not be afraid to die, Hon Obinna Chidoka is doing so well and we are very proud of him. We are not afraid to say and with all sense of responsibility that he should prepare to serve the people at high levels because he has justified the confidence we reposed in him by sending him to the House of Representatives.” Onwugbelu declared.
