We need volunteer health workers to fight coronavirus – Obiano

The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano has called for volunteer health workers that would help in the fight against COVID-19.

The call came barely 24 hours after 17 fresh cases were announced in the state by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) giving a total of 46 cases in the state.

The governor, through a statement from the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C-Don Adinuba, expressed worry over the astronomical rise, stressing the need to redouble efforts in the circumstance.

Appreciating what it called “the heroic efforts” of teams of health professionals working to combat the spread of the disease in the state, it maintained that there was need to enlist volunteers in the fight.

He said,”Their( health workers)efforts are nothing short of sacrificial. To complement their efforts, the Anambra State Government is calling on medical doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists and technologists as well as pharmacists who would like to join any of the teams of health professionals in the state to fight COVID-19 as volunteers.

“Interested persons are to contact the Ministry of Health at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka or they may contact the Administrative Assistant to the Commissioner for Health.”
