We must stop farmers/Herders clash in Gwagwalada – Council Chairman

The Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, said his administration will no longer tolerate incessant clashes between farmers and herders in the area.

Mustapha, who handed down the warning during a peace meeting with farmers and herders at the conference hall of the secretariat, said he would not summon any peace meeting again if they failed to embrace and tolerate one another.

He said it was quite disheartening that despite several efforts his administration had made to ensure peace between the farmers and herders, the council had continued to receive complaints from both farmers and herders.

“I want to make it categorically clear that this peace meeting which I have summoned today will be the last one because we can no longer tolerate any form of clashes between our farmers and herders as we must give peace a chance,” he said.

Also speaking, the police area commander, Sunday Okeobor, said for residents to enjoy peace, there was a need for all individuals to be tolerant of each other.

According to him, farmers and herders have been known to live peacefully with one another over the years, saying peaceful co-existence was very necessary so that the council would move forward.

“Like on the part of the herders, make sure whoever is herding your cattle should be an adult not little boys” He said.
