BREAKING: We arrested Rochas Okorocha’s son-in-law, Nwosu – Police

The Imo State Police Command has cleared the air on the controversy surrounding the reported abduction of Uche Nwosu, a former governorship candidate in Imo State.

The Daily Vendor Newspaper had reported that Nwosu, the son-in-law to the former governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha was whisked away at his hometown, Eziama Obieri in the Nkwerre Local Government Area of the state by unknown gunmen who arrived the scene in an Amoured Personnel Carrier APC and Hilux Vans.

The incident occurred when Nwosu and his family were at St Peter’s Anglican church for a thanksgiving service.

Sources said security operatives attached to the former guber candidate watched without resisting the attack or engaging the gun-wielding persons.

While some of Nwosu’s associates alleged that he was kidnapped, others alleged that his arrest was masterminded by the state governor, Hope Uzodinma.

But the state commissioner for Information and strategy, Declan Emelumba in a swift reaction, said that the governor had no hand in what happened.

But the state Police Command has however in a statement signed by it’s spokesperson, CSP Michael Abattam disclosed that Nwosu was not attacked or kidnapped by unknown gunmen as earlier reported.

The statement reads “This is to inform the general public that chief Uche Nwosu was not kidnapped but was arrested by the police and Imo state police command is aware of the arrest and presently he is in police custody.  

“This is to refute the earlier news that has being making rounds on social media that he was kidnapped by unknown persons / gunmen.  

“The Commissioner of Police while using this medium to assure imolites of the command’s commitment in ensuring the safety of Life and prosperity this  yuletide seasons , adviced the general public to always shun fake news.”
