Vigilante nab 2 for vandalizing EEDC property

….EEDC says communities now more vigilant in protecting the electricity installations within their domain

Two persons have been arrested for vandalizing properties belonging to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) in Southeast.

The Head, Corporate Communications of EEDC, Emeka Ezeh, who disclosed this on Friday said the suspects, Chidiebere Agbalusi and Chinaemerem Azubuike were arrested by local vigilante in Anambra and Abia States respectively.

He said while Agbalusi, a native of Oraifite Ekwusigo local government area was apprehended with vandalized aluminum cable and a cutter, Azubuike was arrested vandalizing aluminum conductors belonging to EEDC in Onuiyangan Community in Bende Local Government Area.

Ezeh said the suspects, as well as the recovered exhibits have been handed over to relevant police formations for further investigation and prosecution.

He said, “There are clear indications that the efforts being made by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) in curbing activities of vandals across its network through effective engagement of its stakeholders, is yielding the desired result.

“This is evident as most communities are now more vigilant in protecting the electricity installations within their domain.

“There is no way EEDC can take on the fight against vandals all by itself, which is why it is depending on its stakeholders for collaboration and support.

“These incidents are coming barely a week after the lifeless body of a vandal suspect identified as Tochukwu Onah (aka Toshiba) was found within the space of a distribution transformer belonging to EEDC at Ede Oballa, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.”
