Former US Secretary of State, Collin Powell, has severed ties with his former boss, Donald Trump, while calling on Americans to vote massively for Joe Biden.
Powell, on Tuesday night, made public his endorsement for Democratic candidate, Joe Biden, thereby giving the ex-Vice President’s bid a major support.
Biden has been officially nominated to run for the White House on November 3.
Powell is the latest on the list of top Republicans to openly support Biden.
His backing of Biden confirms he is opposed to the re-election bid of his party member, President Donald Trump.
Powell maintained that a Biden presidency would “restore America’s leadership and moral authority’’, noting that the country is divided presently.
He also alleged that the president is doing everything in his power to keep it that way.
He noted that there would be difference if America has a leader “who unites us, who restores our strength and our soul.”
“I still believe that in our hearts, we are the same America that brought my parents to our shores, an America that inspires freedom around the world. That’s the America Joe Biden will lead as our next president,’’ Powell said.
Polls conducted recently put Biden ahead of Trump.
