UK applauds SARS dissolution

The United Kingdom has applauded the federal government of Nigeria decision to dissolve the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force.

Catriona Laing,the British High Commissioner to Nigeria disclosed the move as the first step in her Twitter handle, @CatrionaLaing1, wrote, “Welcome the government announcement on the future of #SARS – an important first step.

“The IGP’s commitment to ensure accountability for human rights violations is essential to restoring public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.“Hearing reports of violence affecting ongoing protests. I urge authorities to respect the right to protest and protestors to remain peaceful.

Many Nigerians have been victims of SARS dehumanizing acts over the years. It was finally dissolved after days of protests nationwide and in diaspora. The announcement was made by the inspector General of police, Mohammed Adamu on Sunday afternoon. He also said there would be a new policing structure to replace the defunct SARS.
