Two Police Officers Martyred In Checkpoint Attack

LANDIKOTAL: Two police officials martyred while at least three others wounded when militants believed to be suicide bombers stromed into a heavily manned Takhta Baig check post in Jamrud tehsil in district Khyber on Friday night,police said.

Station House officer of Jamrud police station Shah Khalid Khan Afridi told this scribe that a number of militants equiped with explosives waists entered the check post. He said first a suicide bomber entered the police check post compound to reach to the police personnel.  He said as the suicide bomber apporoached toward the police personnel they opened firing on him and the suicide bomber blew up.

After the blast,he said, the check post caught fire followed by flames.

Shah Khalid said as the bomber went off few other militants also opened gunfiring on the check post. He said police bravely repulsed the attack and timely responded the attackers. He added that it could have huge loss of lives if the bomber reached to the main compound where believed to be a number of police force jawans and officials were present. 

Body parts of the suicide bombers were found inside the police check post, police said. 

Two policemen identified as assistant sub-inspector Manzoor Shah Afridi and Younus Khan Afridi embraced martyrdom while another identified as Rafiq Khan and few others wounded in the attack. 

The injured police were rushed to Hayatabad Medical Complex. 

Police started search operation in the locality to reach to the hands behind the attack. Pak-Afghan hinghway was remained closed where heavey paramilitary troops and police had cordoned off the area.
