Two injured as rolling truck rams into vehicles in Onitsha

Two passengers on Friday sustained varying degrees of injury in an accident in Upper-Iweka, Onitsha, Anambra state.

The crash which occurred around 5.50pm, involved three vehicles with three persons on board.

An eyewitness said the truck was on motion when it lost strength to continue as a result of mechanical deficiency and started rolling back.

He said the driver tried applying brake but it failed, then batched two vehicles behind him and crashed, causing partial blockage.

Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi attributed the cause of the crash to mechanical deficiency and break failure.

While wishing the injured victims quick recovery, Irelewuyi urged motoring public to service their vehicles and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before hitting the road.

He said, “A Serious Road traffic crash Occurred at APAMS Upper-Iweka, by Onitsha-Awka express way today 3rd December, 2021 at about 05:50hrs.

“The crash was between three vehicles, an unidentified driver of an Inveco Fiat truck with registration number: YEN475XN (Commercial), unidentified driver a Nissan Haice bus with registration number: ABN429YP (commercial) and unidentified driver of a Mercedes 4matic Jeep with no registration number (APAMS).

“Three male adults were involved in the crash people were involved in the crash. Two male adults were injured while one male adult came out unhurt.

“The injured victims refused going to the Hospital. The FRSC rescue team are on ground managing the situation. Effort is being made towards the removal of obstructions caused.”
