Two hospitalized after fatal auto crash in Anambra

Two persons were seriously injured in an auto crash along Awka-Onitsha Old road, Umuokpu, Awka, Anambra state.

The accident which occurred around 8.20pm near Umuokpu market, involved a Honda Accord and a Toyota Sienna.

Confirming the incident, Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Pascal Anigbo said no death was recorded.

He said, “A serious Road Traffic Crash involving a Honda Accord with registration number BDG289AK and a Toyota Sienna without enlistment number, was reported to have occurred near Umuokpu Market, along Awka-Onitsha Old Road at about 8.20pm today Monday 10 August, 2020.

“According to eyewitnesses, the crash involved a total of Five (5) victims (2 male adults, 2 female adults and 1 male child). Two victims ( 1 female adult and 1 male child) sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“The victims were rushed to an unknown hospital by good Samaritan before the arrival of the FRSC rescue team from Anambra State Sector Command, Awka.

“FRSC operatives are on ground managing traffic and ensuring that obstructions caused are cleared.

“The Sector Commander FRSC, Andrew Kumapayi frowns at the incessant recklessness of drivers plying major routes in Anambra State, particularly their non adherence to stipulated speed limits and disregard to road safety rules and regulations.

“He strongly warns motorists against violating road safety protocols.

“He informs the motoring public that the Command is clamping down on drivers who violate recommended speed limits and other forms of dangerous driving.

“They will be prosecuted in accordance with stipulated laws.”
