PAKISTAN: Two people were killed while another wounded in growing target killing incidents which happened in Khyber Tribal district, shares border with Afghanistan, sources said on Monday.
Local journalist told The Daily Vendor Newspaper that the first incident happened in Bara tehsil jurisdiction early in the morning when two unidentified assailants shot dead Noor Sharif, resident of Bara and fled from the scene.
He said two men riding a motorcycle came and opened indiscriminate gun fire, leaving Noor Sharif dead on the spot. Another person identified as Muhammad Khan also sustainted bullet injuries. He was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile on the same day, around 3pm local time, in the same type of incident in the same locality, another person was gunned down in Akakhel area of Bara tehsil. Sources said that unknown gunmen shot dead Abdur Rehman and managed to escape.
It worthy to mention here that a number of people have been killed and injured in the targeted killing incidents in Khyber Tribal district in the past months.
It was also learnt that rich people and industrialists have also complained of receiving extortion phone calls from across the border from Afghanistan demanding to pay them ransome money to the banned militant groups.
Pakistan Army after successful military operations conducted in various areas in Pakistan, especially in FATA and had restored peace after a decade long militancy and purged all kinds of militants from the tribal areas, But in the past few months it feared that militants are regrouping and taking steps to create chaos again.
Target killings incidents and extortion phone calls are noticed again in parts of Pakistan especially in merged tribal districts, situated on the border with Afghanistan. People have raised concern and demanded the government of Pakistan to provide security.
Security was put on high alert and search was launched after the incidents in the dsitrict.
