Truck driver on the run after crushing another driver in Onitsha

A young man was seriously injured after being knocked down by a truck driver near Seaman Gas Station, along Onitsha-Awka Expressway.

The incident which occurred around 1pm on Saturday 8 August, 2020, involved two vehicles, a Mercedes Benz Truck with registration number UGB654ZQ and a Lexus Jeep with registration number NSH865FM.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim who got seriously injured was the driver of the Lexus Jeep.

He was knocked down by the truck when he tried forcing the driver to stop after the truck allegedly scratched his vehicle.

Confirming the incident, Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Pascal A. Anigbo, said, “Three male adults and Two vehicles, a Mercedes Benz Truck with registration number UGB654ZQ and a Lexus Jeep with registration number NSH865FM where involved in the crash.

“The injured victim was rushed to Toronto Hospital, Upper Iweka, for immediate medical attention, by FRSC rescue team from Upper Iweka Outpost.

“The vehicles and other victims were handed over to police operatives from Inland Police Station Onitsha, for further investigation.

“The Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State, Andrew A. Kumapayi strongly warns drivers against driving above stipulated speed limits and all forms of dangerous driving.

“Drivers should drive with maximum concentration and most tolerate other road users. Road Traffic Crashes are avoidable.
