PAKISTAN: Khugakhel tribesmen on Tuesday continued their sit-in and protest on the second day and had blocked Landikotal-Torkham road for all kinds of movement to record their protest agsinst the alleged occupation on their property in Torkham.
A large number of Khugakhel tribesmen first gathered at Bacha Khan Chowk in Landikotal and then moved to Landikotal bypass road where they had set up their sit-in camp on the road.
They chanted slogans against NLC and Frontier Crops(FC) for their alleged occupation on the Khugakhel tribe land.
A number of political parties leaders including Pakistan Muslim League Khyber leader Sardar Azam Afridi and MPA Shafiq Sher and Pakistan People Party leader Atta Muhammad Khan visited the Khugakhel tribe sit-in camp and assured them to be with to meet their genuine demands.
Meanwhile, on the call of the Khugakhel elders and Naujawanan-e-Qabail(Tribal Youth) president Israr Khan Shinwari Landikotal and Torkham bazaars observed shutterdown strike on the second day.
Police and paramilitary troops were deployed at Landikotal bypass road and in Torkham to keep calm during the whole day strike at various places on the road.
However, unlike yesterday, no untoward incident was recorded.
Khugakhel tribe elders including Mufti Muhammad Ejaz,Mirajuddin Shinwari,Zakaria Shinwari and Israr Khan Shinwari said that their strike and sit-in would be continued till the NLC not vacat their property. They alleged that NLC slowlly and gradually occupying on the land not mentioned in the agreement done with them by few so-called elders. They said Khugakhel tribe did not accept any agreement and would not let anyone to sale their land for free.
Mufti Ejaz said mutually they after several rounds of talk had chalked out a draft of an agreement which was changed overnight by NLC officials without their consent.
He said He threatened that if NLC not stopped working in Torkham they would be compelled to stop they by force and would throw out their equipments from Torkham.
The road remained blocked till filing to this report that suffered passengers and loaded trucks stranded on the road on the second day.
