Trade volume with Afghanistan hits $161m in 3 months – official

…Says smooth trade relation with Afghanistan would also increase jobs for indigenous people. 

PESHAWAR: A senior custom official on Thursday said that trade with Afghanistan rapiddly increasing as Pakistan exported 161 million dollars goods to Afghan in the past three months via Torkham border.

Talking to The News collector custom Torkham Amjad-ur-Rehman said that not only with Afghanistan but central Asian states also keen to nehance bilateral trade with Pakistan. 

He said after the transite trade agreement with Ozbakistan and Tajikistan daily more than 5000 trucks would be engaged to transport import and export goods from and to Pakistan. 

Amjad said Afghanistan consume a large number of Pakistani made items which help encourage the small and medium factories in Pakistan to dpuble their production in the future.

“In the month of July,August and September Pakistan exported 90 million dollars different items ranging from food to construction materials and other commodities”,said the custom official. He said during the current year the valume of export with Afghanistan and central asian states has reached to 161 million dollars. 

He said they had submitted 3.2 million dollars in term of taxes to the national exchequer in the past few months. 

Amjad said relaxing the trade policies with Afghanistan via Torkham border crossing and state of the art terminal at Torkham border would further enhance trade relation with Afghanistan and other countries.

The custom official claimed that after the completion of dry port  Torkham border crossring would be the central point for Asia and European countries.

“Pakistan also imported 18866 trucks of different goods especially fruites add vegetables in the past three months”, Amjad confirmed. He however, claimed that export to Afghanistan jumped to 26772 trucks loaded with Pakistani made goods in the past three months. 

The official said  smooth trade relation with Afghanistan via Torkham border would also increase jobs for indigenous people.
