Three killed, many injured as gunmen attack Kogi community

No fewer than three persons have been reportedly killed when gunmen attacked Ofanwa Elubi community in Egume, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Disclosing this to newsmen in Lokoja on Satruday, the Assistant Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Kogi State Chapter, Adamu Abubakar, said on May 14, about 8am, some gunmen invaded Ofanwa Elubi community in Egume and opened fire on the Fulani residents, killing three and injuring many in the attack which lasted several minutes.

“This was another attack on our innocent members who were gruesomely killed on the 14th of May 2020. The repeated killings of our members in Igala land, is becoming unbearable.

“This time, they launched the attack on our camp and shot at them without any offence. Those killed include Tine Idris, Fatu Idris, and Abdulkareem Saleh,” Abubakar said.

He however said the incident had been reported to the DPO of Egume Police Station, adding that the three corpses have been evacuated.

The Kogi State Police Command’s spokesperson, William Ayah, who confirmed the incident said the Command has deployed officers in the area to forestall a recurrence and added that investigation was ongoing on the matter.
