What started off in 2018 as an entrepreneurship magazine has now transformed into a hub empowering young people in the grassroots with the skills and resources they need to compete for jobs or start a business locally or globally.
Evolve Incubator Africa, otherwise called Evolve Africa started unofficially in September 2018 by sharing the success stories of entrepreneurs. From the stories of Frank Ojo, who couldn’t go to school but became a world class artist to that of Philip who resigned just three days after getting employment to start his own business, Evolve had gone on to share stories of over 100 entrepreneurs
But as an evolving brand, Evolve Africa soon found out that telling stories was not just enough, it needed to support these entrepreneurs to scale their products and attain new markets while also supporting students and recent graduates to come up with a business idea and start their own business.
Evolve launched its business kickstart program in 2019 where it trained over 200 entrepreneurs in three different cohorts on business development covering topics like(Ideation, Business Plan writing, Business modeling, pitching, fund raising, etc.)
Evolve Africa have since then helped entrepreneurs raise a cumulative $1million in grants and equity funding. Evolve Africa also won a $5,000 Grant from the Tony Elumelu Foundation to expand its service in 2019.
In 2020 just after the Pandemic struck, it launched a skillup program to empower young people with digital skills to blend into the new normal. Young people were trained on skills liken:
• Digital Marketing
• Data Analytics
• Product Design
• Web Development
• Graphics Designing
• Cloud Computing
• Microsoft office, etc.
As the pandemic Struck, Evolve Africa pivoted into a 100% online learning and a tivities. It developed an Elearning portal for young people to acquire trending skills from the comfort of their homes.
Since 2020 till the time of this publication, Evolve Africa has gone on to train over 500 young people across Nigeria in digital skills and business development.
As a result of their continuous innovation towards education, Evolve was shortlisted as Top 10 most innovative startup in Africa by ACT foundation in 2020.
Evolve Africa is continuing to empower young people with skills to escape poverty to either compete for jobs at all level or start their own business.
Evolve Africa is founded by Nzube Okonkwo, who also serves as the Programs Lead.
