Tension over planned protest against Northern killings

Palpable tension has refused to ease following threat by Arewa Youths to protest the killings in the Northern parts of Nigeria.

The group led by Habila Adamu had addressed the press in Kaduna midweek, warning of grave dangers should the authorities failed to halt the perennial killings by Boko Haram in the Northeast and armed bandits in the Northwest and Fulani herdsmen in the Northcentral respectively.

According to the youths ‘it is unequivocal that Arewa lives matter.
Adamu explained that the youths took this stand in pursuit of adequate security, peace and welfare for Nigerian Citizens issuing a fourteen days ultimatum to occupy the state assemblies in the 19 northern state with the inclusion of National Assembly Abuja.
They pledge to follow up situations to see the effort of the government in bringing an end to the killings.
They recalled that on 15th/June/2020, atleast 35 people were killed in three villages in Shinkafi local government.
According to the youths, over 23 persons were killed in Ruwan-Tofa community, which the armed bandits attacked unchallenged.
On 25th/June/2020, Six confirmed dead in an attack by bandits on Kanawa and Kanga villages in Danmusa, which on same date Kaduna-Abuja highway was intercepted by kidnappers, which uptil date number of people whisked away not ascertain.
They alleged that on 26th/June/2020, Dr Muhammad Bello was gunned down Along Katsina-Zamfara road, on his way from an assignment while another bad incidence occurred on 27th/June/2020 where dozens of women and girls were abducted with 10 soldiers killed on same date by Boko Haram in Malaharam in Biu local government of Borno state.
Just recently, 6th/July/2020, Arewa clsim that a promising army officer, 2nd lieutenant A. Alhassan was gunned down in Maiduguri by Boko Haram.

  • Another 15 persons were again killed by bandits in Yar Gamji of Batsari local government area of Katsina state.

Following the expiry of the “fourteen days” they would be left with no other option than to proceed to occupy the State Houses of Assemblies in the nineteen northern states

We restate the fact that Nigerians are deeply disappointed with the ineffective and insufficient approach of the Federal and State governments with regards to ending these daily acts of murder, violence and brutal killings of the innocent.
