Ten escape death in lone accident near Police checkpoint in Anambra

Ten persons were said to have escaped death following a lone vehicle accident involving a Toyota Previa around the Okija axis of the Ihiala/Owerri road on Saturday.

The Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra, RC Pascal A. Anigbo who confirmed the incident to The DAILY VENDOR said no life was lost.

Anigbo however said a child sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital by the FRSC rescue team.

The DAILY VENDOR gathered that the accident which occurred close to a police checkpoint was caused by a tyre burst, leading to loss of control.

“At about 6.30pm today Saturday, 30 May, 2020 a lone Road Traffic Crash involving an Ash coloured Toyota Previa with registration number UYY573YE, was reported to have occurred near a Police check point at Okija, along Ihiala-Owerri expressway,” he said.

“The crash was caused by Tyre Burst and Loss of Control. Ten people (5male adults, 3 female adults and 2 male children) were involved in the crash. One child sustained some degree of injury. No death recorded. The injured child was rushed to Obijackson Hospital, Okija for immediate medical attention by FRSC rescue team from Ihiala Unit Command. Effort is ongoing to clear the obstruction caused.

Kumapayi calls on vehicle owners and drivers, to always ensure they buy and use only quality tyres(new tyres) on their vehicles. Tyres should also be checked regularly and gauged when necessary. Most Road Traffic Crashes are avoidable. He wishes the injured child quick recovery.”
