Nnewi and Nise communities in Anambra state were thrown into jubilation on Sunday following the donation of two separate bungalows to two widows in both communities by a Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) by Chief George Moghalu.
The fully furnished 2-bedroom apartments built by Zimuzo Development Foundation were handed over to the women, Evelyn Okonkwo and Josephine Alajemba in an event witnessed by APC chieftains and faithful.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, one of the beneficiaries, Evelyn Okonkwo expressed appreciation to God and the philanthropist for the gesture.
The visibly excited 65-year old woman said she was promised a house in 2006 by the Minister for Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige during his campaign in the state but regretted that he could not fulfill it till Moghalu’s intervention.
She said, “During Ngige’s tenure in 2006, he came here for campaign and promised to build a house for me. Out of excitement, I was telling people. But God through Ohamadike has fulfilled that promise.”
Earlier, the benefactor, Chief George Moghalu said the project was one of numerous humanitarian gestures of the foundation targeted at the assuaging the pains of the vulnerable and less privileged in the society.
He said three of such structures were built in the three senatorial zones in the state, adding that the gesture was continuous.
He said, “We have a policy that has to do with widows, orphans across the country. We started this project of providing accomodation for the vulnerable, widows and others who nobody can stand for except God.
“We have a committee that identifies them and as soon as they are identified, we start building structures for them. Today we’re in Nise to commission this project and hand it over to the widow.
“We’re also going to Nnewi for another one. Once we’re done with these, we’ll start another phase.
“For us, it’s a humanitarian service to reach out to the needy. We also cater for education for the orphans so they can realise their potentials. There are those we’re paying their medical bills, including provision of artificial legs for amputees.”
