Teachers Day: Adamawa Govt plans to establish teachers commission

‘Fintiri made the remark in a message to the celebration of World Teachers’ Day’

To mark the 2022 teachers day, Adamawa State has announced plans to establish a commission to cater to the needs of teachers in government employment.

The state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, said on Wednesday that his government is doing a bill for the State House of Assembly to enact a law for the establishment of a Teachers’ Service Commission.

He said that when established, the commission will have the mandate of attending to teachers’ welfare and handling the recruitments, promotions, discipline and retirement of teachers.

Fintiri made the remark in a message to the celebration of World Teachers’ Day held at the Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola, through Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Bashiru Ahmad, who said the governor expressed commitment to improve the condition of service for especially teachers at the primary school level.

Fintiri added that the government is working with the local government areas to harmonize the salary structure of teachers.

“We have effected the promotion of teachers which has long been overdue and we shall match the promotions with commensurate reward once the revenue of the state improves,” the governor said.

In his own remark, the State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Rodney Nathan, said teachers are grateful to the Fintiri administration for prioritizing their welfare.
