Taliban takeover Afghanistan: India set to evacuate embassy staff

The Indian Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi had chaired a very high level meeting with the country’s Cabinet Committee members for safety and security issues related to the recent Taliban’s  takeover of Afghanistan and its significant implications on Indians there at Kabul. 

The Indian Home Minister, Defense Minister, Finance Minister had also attended the meeting, besides other senior cabinet representatives and senior defense and intelligence representatives.

The Foreign Secretary was also present in the discussion along with the Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan who has returned to India on Tuesday.


Considering the most recent situation in Afghanistan, the Indian Embassy got closed on 16th August, while the process of evacuation of Indian Embassy staffs who are presently at Kabul has commenced.  

The Taliban have seized power in Afghanistan two weeks before the U.S. was set to complete its troop withdrawal after a costly two-decade war.

Indian sources say the evacuation process would not be an easy task.
