Diarrhea claims four lives in Sokoto, 56 hospitalised

Four people have been confirmed dead with 56 others hospitalised following an outbreak of diarrhea as a result of water contamination in Helele community in Sokoto North local government area of Sokoto State. The Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr. Ali Inname, who confirmed the outbreak of the disease on Thursday, said those affected drank the contaminated water in the affected area. Inname, however, said that the state government has taken steps to contain the spread of the disease to other parts of the state, adding that the survivors have been placed on treatment at Helele and Kofar Rini Primary Healthcare Centres as well as the Sokoto Specialist Hospital. Wike donates N500m for rebuilding of Sokoto market

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, Wednesday announced his donation of N500 million to the Sokoto State Government to support the rebuilding of the Sokoto Central Market which was ravaged by fire on Tuesday. This was disclosed by Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s special adviser on media and publicity, Malam Muhammad Bello, in a statement made available to newsmen. An unfortunate stampede for the monetary gift doled out by Governor Aminu Tambuwal in Sokoto on Friday has led to tragedy after a policeman shot dead one person. The policeman also injured three others. The shooter, a police sergeant, identified as Bello Garba, was promptly arrested by the Sokoto Police Command. His victims have also been identified. Dozens of armed bandits on Wednesday killed at least 60 people in three villages of Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State. Witnesses told The DAILY VENDOR that the bandits came from Tsabrawa area around 4pm in Volkswagen Golf and over 20 motorcycles, and spent several hours shooting. A witness, Mamuda Sani, said the hoodlums first stopped at the major village in the area, Garki, and killed 22. “They shot everybody at sight, we counted 22 bodies in Garki alone,” he said. The Government of Sokoto State commiserate with the family, associate and people of the state over the demise of Dr Garba Nadama, the second civilian governor of the state.  According to a statement by the state government, Nadama died at the age of 82 years after an illness of natural cause. Supreme Court Affirms Tambuwal As The Governor Of Sokoto State.

The Peoples Democratic Party's Candidate, Aminu Tambuwal has been affirmed as the duly elected Governor of Sokoto State by the seven-man panel. In an unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, the apex court dismissed the appeal of Ahmed Aliyu of All Progressive Congress. Aliyu had challenged the victory of Tambuwal at the polls. The case was dismissed on the ground that the appellant failed to prove his allegation of non-compliance with the electoral act and issues of over-voting. The ealier judgement of the Election Petition Tribunal and Appeal Court in Sokoto had upheld Tambuwal's victory.
