Reprieve for Gender Based Violence as Govt aims to Upscale Rescue Centers

By: Dishon Amanya The State Department for Gender in partnership with development partners and other stakeholders yesterday launched the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender Based Violence campaign at KICC, Nairobi. This year's theme, Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now will see Kenya stand with the rest of the world and in solidarity against GBV. The 16 Days of Activism to End Gender Based Violence is an international campaign that calls for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. Kenya, Finland partner on GBV and FGM issues

Kenya and Finland have ratified a bilateral partnership that will see both countries strengthen their intervention measures in response to Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The three year programme that will be rolled out nationally will be unveiled in the three pilot counties of Bungoma, Kilifi and Samburu to the tune of 6,000,000 Euros of which Kenya will contribute 1,000,000 Euros and Finland Government 5,000, 000 Euros. The programme is aimed at advancing the on-going efforts to develop a preventive, protective supportive, responsive and transformative environment for the elimination of Gender Based Violence in the country.
