Anambra chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has described as provocative purported suspension of its State Secretary during a meeting presided over by a Caretaker Chairman.
It said the action was caricature of what serious minded visioners who founded the APC envisaged in the running of a cohesive party.
A statement from its Publicity Secretary, Okelo Madukaife, the party said Mr. Agufugo remained its secretary, calling on public to discountenance the baseless statement and await the outcome of consultation with party leaders.
The statement partly read, “The purported suspension of the State Secretary of our dynamic chapter by a shadowy clan meeting presided over by a Caretaker Chairman in his 13th day of suspension is not only null and void, it is provocative to well meaning APC members.
“If anything, the putrid action is a caricature of what serious – minded visioners who founded the APC envisaged in the running of a cohesive party.
“For proper guidance, no State Working Committee (SWC) meeting of APC took place on Tuesday December 07,2021 in the contemplation of APC 2014 Constitution.
“The State Secretary who is currently coordinating the SWC and State Executive Committee (SEC) , after November 24,2021 is not aware and has not consented to such a meeting which agenda was not stated.
“The baseless action finds no root in APC Constitution which is specific who can issue notice of, meetings, how long a notice should be, content of notices and who can preside.
“Anambra APC members and the general public are hereby enjoined to discountenance the baseless statement from the suspended Chief Basil Ejidike and await the outcome of so far fruitful consultation with party leaders.
“We will not recognize any State Secretary or equivalent outside Mr. Agufugo, on whose shoulders the actual SWC revolves at the moment.
“Chief Ejidike is hereby advised to enter his defence on allegations which led to his suspension from office instead of serial shadow-boxing that is digging his trenches deeper.
“All arms of security agencies in Anambra State have been appropriately briefed on this development which targets the fragile peace left as our leadership explore an amicable solution.
“A meeting of the Expanded State Caucus has been scheduled for Friday December 10,2021.
“We seize this opportunity to implore highly-placed members of our great party in neighbouring states to Anambra, and indeed elsewhere, to resist the temptation to meddle into this Anambra-specific, challenge in the party to avoid further complications.
“Subsequently, we may have no option but to name names, should these manifestations high-profile restlessness fester.
“We assure our membersip that no stone will be left unturned to restore the dynamic chapter to peaceful: constitutional order respecting the egalitarian desires and aspirations of the long-suffering membership.
“Our Constitution shall continue to guide us.”
