Suspected kidnappers rape unemployed lady after collecting N.4m ransom

A 24 year-old woman has been allegedly raped by suspected kidnappers in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra state.

The victim, an unemployed lady was reportedly abducted by the suspects who had collected N400,000 from her relations as ransom.

The suspects were said to have lured their victim with the pretext of giving her a job.

While in their captivity, the suspects reportedly raped her repeatedly despite collecting N400,000 ransom from her relations to free her.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident.

He said the three-man gang have been arrested.

Mohammed said,” Suspects allegedly raped the victim repeatedly while in capivity despite collecting N400,000 Ransom from her relatives

“On Saturday at about 2pm,police operatives attached to the Command Special Anti Robbery Squad arrested the syndicate in Awkuzu.

He gave their names as Ekwugha Innocent Chinazo, 25, of Mgbguzo Awkuzu,Chidiebere Ogoegbunam, 24,of Egbu Awkuzu and David Nnaemeka,19, of same address.

Mohammed added,”The Suspects had lured the 24 year-old lady residing at St Micheal hostel Temp side Awka under the pretext of securing for her a beauty make up job; picked her up at ukpo junction along Enugu- Onitsha Expressway and took her to an isolated building at Awkuzu where they allegedly raped the victim repeatedly while in captivity for two days.

Mohammed said the suspects had confessed to the crime while the victim was taken to the hospital for medical examination, adding that investigation was ongoing after which suspects would be prosecuted.

He added, “The Command enjoined the public to be wary of this new trend of crime and report suspicious persons through the police emergency number or the nearest police station for prompt response.”
