A Former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osita Chidoka has reacted to the January 14, Supreme Court judgment on Imo governorship election.
In a post on his Facebook page, the former FRSC Boss said it was the first time a judgment of the Supreme Court will cause a widespread condemnation and protest in Nigeria.
Chidoka said “I believe the Imo Gov election, is the first time in Nigeria that a judgement of the Supreme Court will cause widespread condemnation and protest.”
He called on the Justice Muhammadu Tanko led Supreme Court to restore the integrity of the court.
“The Supreme Court under Justice Tanko should work to restore the integrity of the court urgently.” He said.
Fox Channel had reported that sequel to the judgment by the seven-man panel of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammadu on Imo State Governorship Election on Tuesday, 14th January, 2020, The PDP held a protest across the nation.
The ruling which removed Emeka Ihedioha as governor of the state caused wide criticism by Nigerians on social media.
The judgment however returned the candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC), Hope Uzodinma, who came in a distant 4th in the said election as winner. The Supreme Court ordered INEC to issue certificate of return to Uzodinma.
A development the opposition party described as a rape on Nigeria’s nascent democracy.
The Party Executives however, called for a peaceful demonstration and solidarity from all Nigerians.
The protest which held in many states across the nation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from Sunday January 19, to Tuesday January 21, had concerned citizens trooping out en masse in support of the PDP’s clarion call.
