Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige has regretted the lingering strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
He accused the leadership of the union of deceiving its members, describing the Union’s action as laughable.
Speaking weekend in his Alor country home in the Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State, the minister said IPPIS was the main reason ASUU embarked on strike.
He said there was nowhere in the world where employees dictated to their employers how they should be paid.
He recalled that even when the Federal Government conceded to the system adopted by ASUU, its leadership went further to request for 18 months to allow its researchers work on the same system.
“ASUU leadership should go and tell it’s members the whole truth between it and the Federal Government” Ngige said.
On President Muhammadu Buhari’s fifth anniversary as President of Nigeria, coming up on 29th May, Ngige noted that the government had made tremendous progress in agriculture and infrastructure development .
For the Southeast geo-political zone, Ngige noted that one-third of the span of Second Niger Bridge had been done, while many stretches of Enugu-Onitsha and Enugu-Port Harcourt highways had been done.
He disclosed that the Akanu Ibiam Airport which Buhari approved for rehabilitation at the cost of N10 billion, would be reopened after COVID-19 lockdown, as the runway was receiving finishing touches.
