Soludo’s efforts to reposition Awka city can’t be jeopardized by criminal elements – ACTDA boss

Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) Mr. Ossy Onuko has described incidents of gun related violence within the State Capital as totally condemnable.

He reiterated that efforts of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to reposition and regenerate the city cannot be jeopardized by activities of very few misguided individuals whose intention was to reap where they did not sow.

Speaking to reporters shortly after a meeting with major stakeholders in Awka South Local Government Area of the state, Onuko maintained that whatever might be the reason for such act should be jettisoned.

He said, “The meeting was targeted at finding lasting solution to the security challenges, including crimes and gun violence in Awka as well as call for peaceful coexistence among residents of the city.

“Finding lasting solution  is necessary as the elected and appointed officers owe it as duty to the people to keep Awka safe not just for residents but for thousands of investors trooping into the city.”

The ACTDA boss appealed to youths involved in such criminality to turn a new leaf and embrace peace, stressing that there was no future in violent crime.

Describing capital city as the most industrious city in Southeast, Onuko reiterated that illegal firearms possession was a crime that attracted heavy penalty.

Member representing Awka South I constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Comrade Henry Mbachu called for re-orientation of youths through the National Orientation Agency (NOA) while suggesting holistic approach of ending crimes.

Also speaking, Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Mr. Anagor ThankGod who highlighted the severity of the gun problem in Awka, urged perpetrators to embrace peace for the greater good of the community.
