Skill Acquisition: 100 women commence NDE training on spices production, packaging in Anambra

No fewer than 100 women are undergoing training under the Women Empowerment Branch (WEB) of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Anambra state.

The participants, selected from different Local Government Areas of the state were being empowered in the production and packaging of spices.

Speaking on Wednesday during the inauguration of the programme, State Coordinator, Mrs Chika Ufele explained that the Directorate focused on women essentially to assist them overcome poverty and improve their lives.

She said the cardinal programmes of NDE were designed to create jobs among the unemployed youths, women and others interested in acquiring life sustaining skills through vocational skills acquisition entrepreneural training, labour based development and training on agriculture, among others.

She said, “The Women Empowerment Branch of NDE was created to ensure full and equal participation of women in four main programmes namely: formation of cooperatives; training on marketable job skills, savings, lending and self reliance.

“After a series of mixed bunch of trainees for skills and employment, NDE has focused on women only for purposes of assisting them to overcome poverty, cope with ups and downs of life and improve their well-being.”

Applauding the Director General of the Directorate, Dr. Nasir Ladan for approving the programme and its attendant implementations, Ufele expressed optimism that the women would become wealth creators at the end of the exercise.

“When women realize their economic goals, whether in growing business, improving their home or investing in training or education, they will be more resilient and able to provide for themselves and their families,” she added.

One of the beneficiaries Mrs Elizabeth Nworah thanked the Directorate for providing her the opportunity to benefit from the programme, saying she had learnt how to produce local seasoning.
