No fewer than 60 boats were reportedly damaged at Sea on Saturday, when Srilankan Navy attacked Indian fishermen boats with rocks, about 25 boats were severely damaged and fishing nets broken.
An official of the Fisheries Department made the allegation that 558 boats went fishing in the sea on Saturday. While fishing near Indian State Taminadu’s Kachchathivu Island, the Sri Lankan navy reached five patrol vessels and started throwing stones and bottles at the Indian boat. The attack took place late at night.
The Daily Vendor Newspaper however, learnt that no fisherman was injured in the ambush.
A senior representative of the Fishermen’s Association, expressed concern over the matter.
It was gathered that the attack was the second of such this month. At the beginning of August, the fishermen were attacked in the same place.
The Fishermen are appealing to the state and the center to talk to the Sri Lankan government to resolve the border dispute.
