PAKISTAN: Militancy related incidents gradually increasing in district Khyber as unidentified miscreants attacked the house of a former tribal police officer with rocket launcher on Friday, no casualty was however reported, sources said.
The sources said that a rocket was fired on the ex-tribal police Line Officer(LO) Zarmat Khan’s house in the Jamrud police station jurisdiction. Zarmat Khan had also martyred 9-year ago.
According to sources, the house was partially damaged in the attack, but luckily the inmates remained unhurt in the attack.
It was learnt that the culprits fled the scene after commiting the crime. Jamrud police registered case against unknow people and started investigation.
Brother of late Zarmat Khan, Frontier Corps(FC) retired subedar(R) Latif Khan said that they were continuously receiving threatening phone calls from an Afghan mobile cellular company demanding for ransome. He said unidentified persons threatening them for dire consequences if they were not paid money.
“We are receiving threatening phone calls to kill us if we refuse to pay them money”, said Latif Khan. He added that they have registered complaint in the Jamrud police station against the unknown callers but still their lives was in danger.
Latif said his brother Zarmat Khan was maetyred in a suicide attack in 2012 while his son Yarmat Khan shot dead seven year after father assasination. He said in the past ten years militants have killed four of his family members and the life of the remaining family men was in severe danger. He said they did not have money to pay ransome to the militants.
He said if they were not provided protection they would be compelled to sale their parental home in Jamrud to pay ransome to the militants and save their lives.
Latif Khan appealed from the Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Moazzam Jah Ansari to provide them security.
This correspondent tried to take version of district police officer Wasim Riaz but he did not responded to the phone calls and mobile messages.
The security agencies have tightened security in the district after threat alerts were issued a week ago due to possible terrorists atttacks in the district.
Residents were in deep fear after several militancy related incidents including target killings happened here in which few people were gunned down in the past few weeks in district Khyber.
