A gang of robbers on Sunday invaded the Eastern Coalfield Limited ECL‘s coal mine at the West Bengal states Asansol area.
ECL is an India based coal producer, the company was founded in 1975 after nationalisation of coal mines in India. It operates coal mines in Jharkhand and West Bengal states of India. It inherited all the private sector coal mines of the Raniganj Coalfield.
It was learnt that the miscreants numbering about twenty, broke into the ECL’s Bhagyalakshi incline in Kumardubi in Mugma area in an attempt to cut the copper wire of the cable inside.
According to sources, the miscreants were inside the mine till Monday evening. While the Police and CISF forces have surrounded the mine.
The source said that upon receiving the news of the invasion by the miscreants, a team of CISF and Dhanbad police mobilized to the spot.
It was learnt that the security forces repeatedly warned the suspects to surrender, otherwise they will be shot, but the miscreants did not surrender. Instead, they started firing shots at the security guards.
The Daily Vendor Newspaper learnt that the miscreants also used bomb to attack the security operatives.
Sources told The Daily Vendor that none of the suspects has surrendered till Monday evening. So the police have surrounded the mine from the outside. At the same time, the manager of the colliery and the police officers are working out a strategy to reach inside the colliery.
It was learnt that a security guard, Abodh Bihari was seriously injured in the shootings and bomb blasts by the miscreants.
Last month, an ECL security guard was shot dead by miscreants. They killed him for obstructing the theft of coal. It is alleged that the miscreants killed him by chopping him with a coal-cutting gaiti. Manoj Chauhan, a 31-year-old security guard, died in the incident at Banshara OCP area of Kunustodia area in Raniganj. He was a resident of Jambad Beniadihi area of Andal police station. Manoj was the security guard of ECL’s railway siding.
