Rivers: 21 suspected IPOB members remanded in court for terrorism

21 suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, were yesterday remanded by the Magistrates’ Court in Port Harcourt in the facility of Nigerian Correctional Services over alleged acts of terrorism.

The state police command, while arraigning the suspects in court, said they were IPOB members.

The Chief Magistrate, Amadi Nna, while entertaining the case, decline jurisdiction over the matter, but asked the lawyers to the suspects to seek for bail for their clients at the High Court.

The court also directed that the files of the suspects should be sent to the Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice, even as the case was adjourned till December 29, 2020.

Meanwhile, one of the lawyers to the suspected IPOB members (name not mentioned) have distanced their clients from the violence in Oyigbo, saying the police brought trumped-up charges against their clients.

“They were alleged to have committed a terrorist act but this is far from the reality. To the best of my knowledge, they are frame-up charges,” he stated.
