Recognize bandits as federal civil servants, if… — Ex Lawmaker tells government

Reactions have continued to trial the incessant killings by bandits in the Northern part of Nigeria.

Reacting to Sunday’s killing of two persons and abduction of many others at a Baptist Church in Kaduna state, a former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, urged the government to declare bandits as federal civil servants since it has failed to view them as terrorists.

Sani on his Twitter handle, lamented the killing of Christian and Muslim worshippers in their religious houses by bandits.

He tweeted, “They [bandits] killed Muslim worshipers in their mosques in Niger and Katsina State; they killed Christians in their Churches in Kaduna State; if the Government doesn’t want to declare them terrorists, it should declare them federal civil servants.”

In an earlier tweet, Sani, described as useless the suspension of telecommunication services in the North which was meant to tackle the bandits.

He said, “Yesterday’s attacks on the Baptist Church Kakau Daji, Kaduna State by terrorists, the killing of some worshippers and the abductions of scores of others is tragic and unfortunate. The suspension of the telecom services in the North is useless.”

The Daily Vendor Newspaper had earlier reported that bandits attacked a Baptist Church in Kakau Daji in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, leaving two dead and abducted several others on Sunday.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, Kaduna Chapter, Chairman, Rev. Joseph Hayab who also reacted to the incident, said the attack was “another sad story of how deteriorating our insecurity has become.”

Hayab added, “Citizens are being killed like chickens with only press statements as consolation.

“These evil people have troubled us for too long.

“I condole the families of the Baptist denomination and Kaduna Christians for this loss and urge our security agencies to separate war against enemies of Nigerians from politics. No one knows who will be the next target.”
