Rape Scandal: Trouble Looms for D’banj

By: Abimbola Adelakun

Scandals don’t seem to end in the life of our celebrities, do they?

It’s been a hectic year for Oladapo Oyebanjo popularly known as D’banj.

Since the beginning of June 2020, the Koko master has been involved in a rape case. He was accused by a young lady, Seyitan Babatayo, who alleged that D’banj raped her in December of 2018.

The news was first spread by the friend of the young lady, Benjamin Ese, who spoke up about how D’banj sexually molested his friend on the night of an all-white party.

He said D’banj had driven all the way from Eko hotel where he was lodged and came down to Glee Hotel in Victoria island at midnight 2.40 am and collected the spare keys of his friend’s room from the receptionist, entered the room and forced himself on her.

The allegations sparked outrage on social media platforms, a journalist, Kemi Olunoyo, also expressed her opinion concerning this issue. Kemi revealed that someone close to D’banj set up Seyitan to accuse him.

Kemi Called out Seyitan to answer some questions regarding the issue.

The allegation caused a petition online calling on the United Nations to strip D’banj of his appointment as UN Ambassador for peace. The petition was signed by over 22,000 people as at June 24, 2020.

The United Nations has responded to the petition by saying D’banj was never at any time given the title of ambassador by the UN.

The email read , “I would like to confirm that the said Mr Oladapo Oyebanjo aka D’banj is NOT a UN Ambassador. The title was accorded to him by an obscure UN youth association which has nothing to do with the United Nations. I hope this clarifies”.

We’re awaiting more information on the allegations.
