The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has come out to give clarification on the information making the rounds on social media that a prolonged use of the face masks by healthy people may cause death.
The centre on its Twitter handle on Saturday said the information is false. It said, face masks can be safely used by healthy persons over 2 years of age.
It went on to advice Nigerians never to remove their face masks while in public, as doing so can lead to spread of the virus, THE DAILY VENDOR reports.
NCDC said “The information circulating on social media that prolonged use of face masks by healthy people may cause death, is FALSE Face masks can be safely used by healthy persons over the age of 2 years Please DO NOT remove your mask in public spaces. This can lead to spread of #COVID19”
