Presidential Aide Denies Being Indicted for Corruption

The Special Adviser to the President on Justice Sector Reform, Mrs Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu, has denied reports that she was indicted for corruption.

The presidential aide has dismissed a report in an online news medium that she benefited from funds that were gifted to the Federal Ministry of Justice in 2011.

Nwagwu’s lawyer, Atuegwu Okafor, in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, promised to take legal action against the online medium.

It said, “Since reading that report, we have made efforts to find out the source of the information as we only became aware of such a story in the newspaper.

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is yet to inform Mrs Ibekaku Nwagwu of how she benefited personally from the funds and why her name was mentioned in a document that does not reflect the work she did for the Federal Ministry of Justice.”

The statement noted, “It is important to put on record that Mrs Ibekaku Nwagwu was only an Adviser to the Federal Ministry of Justice on Justice Reform in 2011 as she was on leave of absence from the EFCC, her primary place of assignment.

“We shall be taking necessary legal actions to protect her person, her family, and hard-earned reputation.”
