LANDIKOTAL: Hundreds of Landikotal residents and political parties leaders and workers staged a protest demonstration at Charwazgay Chowk and recorded their protest against Tesco officials on Thursday.
The prost was led jointly by JUI-F leader Mufti Muhammad Shinwari,eldrrs and local bodies represemtarives. They marched from vrious villages in Landikotal and gathered at Charwazgay Chowk. Residents from Shalman,Mulagori,Afridi and Torkham participated in the protest. They were holding black flags and banners inscribed witj slogans against Tesco.
The protesters put heavey stones on Pak-Afghan highway at Charqazgay Chowk and suspended all kinds of movement. Large queues of trucks and passengers coaches stranded on the road due to the blockade.
Speaking on the occasion, Mufti Muhammad Ejaz,Kalimullah,Landikotal bazaar traders union president Jafar Khan Shinwari and others said that Tesco officials had agreed to provide six hours electricity in 24 hours. They said Tesco and civil administration failed to fulfill the mutual agreement.
Mufti Ejaz rejected Fata merger and said tribals were merged in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but no development project initiated. He said all reaources in erstwhile Fata were sollowed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. He added that the road would be remained closed until their demands were not fulfilled. On the call of trade union Landikotal bazaar was observed closed. All shops,offices and hotels were closed to show their solidarity with citizens. Protesters put iron chain over the heavy 33kv electricity line and suspended power supply to the whole Landikotal tehsil. Electricity was cut off to district Headquarters hospitals,government offices and Pakistan Army garrison to press the authorities to accept their demands.
In Bara and Jamrud tehsils residents,parliamentarians and political leaders also staged sit-ins and blocked road for traffic. They also stromed the electricity grid stations and switched off power supplylines for the whole district.
*Custom Sepoy eletricuted:**
A sepoy of Pakistan custom electricuted when he was checking a loaded container in Torkham border.
Custom official Saddiq Akbar said Yasir Shah died after he was electricuted
due to short circuit.He said the illfated custom employee was busy at his work when the incident happened. He wae was rushed to District Head Quarters hospital in Landikotal in serious condition but could not survived. His coffin was later dispatched to his village Qureshabad in Katlang Mardan.
