POWA boss commissions skills acquisition centre in Anambra

The President, Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) Hajiya Hajara Usman Alkali Baba has commissioned the newly built Police Officers Wives Association Skill Acquisition Center in Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government of Anambra State.

Inuaguarating the project, Baba described the initiative as one of her agendas and progressive reforms as the 21st President of POWA. 

She said the project was aimed at assisting and enhancing welfare of the families of Police officers in the country, by engaging their wives to acquire skills and knowledge that would bring funds to support their respective families. 

She said, “Since assumption of office, we have built and commissioned Skill Acquisition Centers in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Rivers State and Anambra State as well as that of Benue State still ongoing.

“The facilities are targeted at helping and enhancing the welfare of the families of Police officers in the country, by engaging their wives to acquire skills and knowledge that will bring funds to support their respective families. 

“These skills include fashion design, catering, baking, hair and wig making, headgear styling/design and many others.”

The POWA boss assured that at the end of every training session, participants would receive necessary tools and empowerment materials for the successful take-off to start based on the skills they had acquired.

Responding, Chairperson, Police Officers Wives Association, Mrs Ikemi Echeng on behalf of POWA Anambra thanked the National President, POWA for the project.

She expressed confidence that the gesture would spur officers, especially in the State to greatness while discharging their statutory duties, just as she assured that their welfare was of paramount importance to the leadership of the Force.

Hghlights of the events were commissioning of the project, songs presentation by Police Wives Association, (POWA) Anambra State, cash donations by dignitaries among other activities.

Represented at the function were major sponsor of the project, Prince Engr. Dr Authur Ikpehchukwu Eze, OFR Ebube Ukpo, Ozoigbonu, Prince Dr Okechukwu Eze, His Royal Majesty Igwe Dr Robert Eze, Sen. Ifeanyi Uba representing Anambra South Senatorial Constituency.

Others were Deputy Vice Chancellor of Paul University, Prof Mrs Chinenyere Okunna, Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 13, AIG Tony Olofu, Commissioner of Police Anambra State Police Command, CP Echeng Echeng and other dignitaries.
