Police track kidnappers of Imo Monarch, rescue victims, arrest 5 [Pictures]

The Imo State Police Command has paraded five kidnap suspects, Clestine Agu from Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area, Abia State and Wisdom Sunday, from Arondizuogu Ideato North, Imo state.

Also paraded were, Godwin Obi, from Ideato North Local Government Area, Imo State, others are; Onyemuche Okpara, from Isuochi Umunneochi, Abia State and  Chikwado Chukwu, from Isuochi Umunneochi, Abia State.

The suspects were paraded at the state’s police command headquarters in Owerri on Friday, May 1, for kidnapping a seventy-eight years old traditional ruler of Ugwuaku autonomous community, Imo State, HRH Eze, Igbojionu Emmanuel and the Secretary to the Okigwe LGA Council, Hon. Ndubueze Nwokoro, THE DAILY VENDOR reports.

Briefing newsmen in Owerri Friday, the Imo Police Public Relations Officer, SP  Ikeokwu Godson Orlando, said that “On the 23rd April 2020, at about 7:30 pm, the traditional ruler  of Ugwuaku Autonomous community, HRH Eze, Igbojionu Emmanuel was kidnapped and his Blue colour Highlander taken away.” 

Sp Ikeokwu further disclosed that, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N5million, and N1.2 million according to him was paid, but the hoodlums kept demanding for more.

In a related development on the 25th of April 2020, gunmen abducted Hon. Chibueze Nwokoro, who is the secretary to Okigwe Local Government council of Imo state. According to the report, both men were kidnapped in Okigwe town.

The PPRO further stated that, through a painstaking, and discreet investigations, operatives of the command traced and stormed the den of the kidnappers, rescued the victims unhurt, and arrested five of the kidnappers.

SP Ikeokwu confirmed to our correspondent that the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.
