…Operatives attached to the bullion van gallantly repelled the attack
A bullion van was on Thursday attacked by gunmen in Umunebo, Ufuma in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The gunmen were reportedly repelled by security operatives attached to the van.
The van was said to be conveying cash to an undisclosed location when it was trailed to the community by the hoodlums who opened fire on it and security men guarding it.
A source said, “The incident happened at about 5pm yesterday. Residents of the community fled the area following heavy shooting as security operatives attached to the bullion van battled the armed robbers.
“The Police, however was able to stop them from succeeding.”
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga said the hoodlums were repelled by the security operatives.
He added that a Lexus and highlander jeeps belonging to the robbers were recovered in the process.
He said: “Operatives attached to the bullion van gallantly repelled the attack. The incident happened at about 4pm in Umunebo junction, Ufuma.
“The Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng has since ordered immediate manhunt on the attackers. The operational vehicles belonging to the armed robbers have been recovered.
“Other items recovered are; one empty magazine, defaced bullet proof vest, charms and some incriminating items.”
